Dropsafe Barrier

The Dropsafe Barrier is a modular dropped object prevention system that can be attached to the inside of elevated guardrailing, scaffolding, and under stairs. It uses impact- and heat-resistant panels with a small honeycomb aperture to stop loose items such as tools, handheld devices and maintenance equipment from slipping through gaps and falling from height, helping to reduce potential dropped object risk to people and assets, improving overall worksite safety.

The Dropsafe Barrier should be used whenever there is an identified risk of objects falling through open guardrailing or elevated edges, based on a dropped object risk assessment or change in operating conditions. It is particularly important to deploy the Barrier during periods of high activity such as construction, shutdowns and maintenance turnaround periods (TAR), when tools, components and other items are more likely to be kicked or knocked towards the edge in busy access routes and work zones.

The Dropsafe Barrier should be deployed anywhere there is foot traffic at height above people or critical equipment, such as elevated guardrailing, scaffolding, or under stairs. Within a dropped object prevention strategy based on the hierarchy of controls, it functions as an engineering control alongside nets, slings and tool tethering, adding edge protection where elimination and substitution are not sufficient.

Compared with mesh, metal fencing or wood panels, the Dropsafe Barrier is a superior solution for dropped object prevention, offering small consistent apertures (19.8mm | 0.78”) to prevent small items falling, high impact resistance that withstands multiple impacts at 62.5 J and minimal maintenance over its lifecycle. It can also withstand exposure to over 100 chemicals and therefore requires much less frequent replacement issues often seen with mesh, metal fencing or wood panels, providing a lower total cost of ownership while maintaining reliable dropped object protection for 10+ years.

The Dropsafe Barrier is approved under the ABS Dropped Object Prevention Programme (DOPP+) as an engineered control on elevated edges, giving operators a recognized, type-approved solution for integrating certified drops-resistant equipment into their onsite DOPP+ programme. This independent ABS DOPP+ Type Approval helps sites demonstrate alignment with codified dropped object prevention requirements and underpins best practice implementation across offshore assets.
